2009 AUSTRALIAN V8 DIRT MODIFIED CHAMPIONSHIP The Dirt Modified Association of Western Australia in conjunction with Dirt Modifieds Australia announce that the 2009 Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship will be conducted at Manjimup Speedway in the scenic South West of Western Australia on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st February 2009. This event promises to be the most openly contested event for the division for several years as with the retirement of current champ Tim Morse from Victoria, the event will be run without a defending champion although DMAWA will exhaust all avenues in a bid to entice the current and former five times champion to the West in a bid to attain an unprecedented fourth successive crown to add to his tally of Australia Number One’s in 2002-03, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08. DMAWA has now progressed along the path of setting in place the format, which is as yet confirmed, of street parades in close knit regional towns including Bunbury, Margaret River and Augusta amongst others so as to publicise this event not only for the Manjimup Speedway Club but also for Speedway Racing and the V8 Dirt Modified division nationwide as these presentations are bound to attract large regional and metropolitan media interest. The anticipated racing format is planned at this stage to conduct a scrutineering session in the Manjimup Town Centre on Thursday 19th February followed by a street parade and later that evening a social event including the draw for the all important heat one starting positions and a Calcutta draw and a night of fun filled social activities true to the local Western Australian club spirit. Friday 20th February will see the conducting of three rounds of heat heat racing with all cars split into two or three sections for each heat round as per the approved DMA two night racing format for National and State Title events. Night two on Saturday 21st February will see one more further round of heats followed by a B-main final for final transfer positions to the A-final and then the conducting of the all important 30 lap final of the 2009 Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship. A rain out date of Sunday February 22 has been allocated but it is hoped that this date can be utilised as a day of touring and socialising through the Western Australian world famous Margaret River wine region. More details will be released as they come to hand including details of a follow up race meeting either at Kalgoorlie or Esperance as an incentive to Eastern States teams to accept a chance to pocket a little extra funding so as to lighten the fuel cost burden. More details can be obtained by contacting DMAWA Publicity Officer Greg McKay on 0408 909 120 or by email at ggraphic@highway1.com.au BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px; } |
